How to Find octave centers on the guitar

Octaves are a cool way of spicing up your solos either by adding in the ocatve note after playing the lower note, or, in the way that George Benson and other great Jazz artists have made famous, playing full octave type power chords that allow you to play all sorts of melodies on the guitar.
